about

Not to blend whatever pulp is left of the dead horse we can't seem to stop beating, but COVID-19 really fucked us, huh? On a selfish note, I had to cancel 10+ shows and I didn't perform live as Glass Noose between January 2020 and August 2021 - live in-person anyway. Looking back, it feels both like more and less time than it actually was. A lot of us explored new mediums of performance, particularly the livestream. I did and continue to do a number of them, and I frequently threaten the audience that I'm recording the stream to use for a pseudo-live album. I always record, but I never do anything with it. I've wanted the banter to be there, I've wanted the transitions to be smooth... but I get too much joy from direct, real-time interaction with the audience, and we haven't yet reached the point where that actually works in a digital space. That's always been the missing piece, and I don't think that's going to change anytime soon.

For that reason, I decided one night, after one of the more fulfilling concerts that I played in the year of our lord 2022, that I would earnestly record some sort of "live" album. So, on November 13, 2022, I sat at my desk in my basement apartment, strapped a guitar on, and performed alone to the backing tracks I made for myself this year. I have held a lot of sentimental feelings this year about it being the fifth real year of Glass Noose's existence, and I wanted to commemorate that with something live, something human. Something that was the most "warts-and-all" thing I've ever done. I sat and tracked these songs in one session, only re-doing a song when my CPU got too angry at me. It's not perfect - sometimes the notes are off, maybe I forget a lyric, I might be out of tune, sometimes the strumming gets picked up by the vocal mic - everything that comes with a solo performance is here. I wanted to capture the feeling of seeing Glass Noose live in 2022 as best I could. Guitar and vocals were recorded simultaneously. The banter, yes, is missing, but you wouldn't want whatever banter this included anyway.

I just hope you enjoy the tunes. I tried to pick the songs that have seen the most variance from their original recorded versions, to inject fresh life into something that wasn't exactly new (the whole of san junipero is here because nostalgia). At the same time, there is one brand-new song on this release. Anyway, Thanksgiving is a pretty bullshit thing, but Hampy Thanksgiving.
